THUMBNAIL | DESCRIPTION |
|
This is a short sequence of photos of a regenerated area about 100 km
west of Hanoi as the guest of the Forest Science Institute of Vietnam
and the Cau Hai Experimental Station. This area was degraded by poor
industrial farming practices and is now being replanted in a variety of
subsistence and cash crops.
The first two photos a Melaleuca plantation on the hills in the distance. Closer to the camera are orchard trees, some fast growing Eucalyptus (probably to be used as firewood) and in the foreground tea plants. A rice paddy is in the centre. The bottom photo shows a FSIV scientist demonstrating a novel method of propagating bamboo, by stimulating the growth of shoots. Bamboo and Melaleuca are sold to a paper mill at Viet Tri. My hosts were Mr Bui Minh Vu, Mr Hoang Minh Ky Ms Nguyen Thuong Van of the Forest Science Institute of Vietnam, Mr Nguyen Quang Khai, director of the FISV experimental station at Cau Hai, and Prof. Nguyen Van Thuong of the Animal Husbandry Association of Vietnam. Location: Doan Hung District, Pho Tho Province
