This series of images shows the Northern coast line of Vietnam from the border town of Mong Cai in the North to Ha Long Bay in the South. From these images it can be seen that there esists some forest on the large islands in the Gulf of Tonkin. The area around the coal mining centre of Hong Gai - Cam Pha contains much evidence of human modification. Human habitation follows stream beds into inland areas of this province. Across the border in China, there is even more extensive than in Vietnam.
These are Landsat images. Maps 2, 4 and 5 were taken on 23 November 1989 (as were the images of Cat Ba in this series). Maps 1 and 3 were taken on 2 December 1989.
