Acknowlegements and Conference Photos
We have a lot of people to thank for helping organise this meeting. We have already acknowledged our sponsors in AusAID and the Australian National University. This meeting could not have been organised except through their support. Special thanks to Elspeth Young, David Marr and Ben Kerkvliet.
I can't begin to list all the people who have helped along the way. The most immediate faces, however, are Dianne Dunne of NCDS, Bev Frasier and her colleagues at Political and Social Change and Oanh Collins in Pacific and Southeast Asian History. They are a very professional group. Sue Holtzknecht provided ongoing support. Their involvement was crucial because the chief organiser (moi) went off to Vietnam for a month just after announcing the meeting schedule.
Anne Casson and Jay Roop were very kind in helping out both in terms of content and organisational skills in situations where a lot of flexibility was needed. I'd like to thank Jay and Anne for their planning of the morning workshop. Similarly, I'd like to thank the delegation from AID/WATCH for bringing their exceptional skills together for their workshop session.
Most of all I would like to thank the speakers and listeners. You all made this a pleasant experience for me. I hope that it was worth as much for you. Please let me know how this process can be improved.
We planned this meting on a shoe-string. We had little in the way of time or money. Most notification was either through the internet or piggy-backed to the Vietnam Update schedule. Publication would have to be simple -- electronic, of course. As times are changing, the meeting patterns will undoubtedly change as well. That we have been able to get most of the meeting papers published within two weeks of the session, and at almost no cost, probably shows us where we are going.
Thank you again, Vern
