AVSL-L Discussion Group

AVSL maintains discussion group called AVSL-L. It is mainly a list for the exchange of professional and scientific information. Your contributions are welcome and indeed necessary. Please contact me at my email address below if you have further questions about contribution policy.

You will get an introductory message as soon as we approve your application (usually within a day).

AVSL-L is on a Searchable WAIS Database. This is a KEYWORD searchable WAIS database of all AVSL-L postings since 1994. The URL for the database is:

You may encounter some problems. Some web browsers, notably some versions of Netscape, do not work properly with the forms used here. You may need to use another brwower or a Gopher application.

The search algorithm is very simple. Enter a word or a number of words and, when you submit the form, the WAIS engine will search for files with any of those words. This is also called an .OR. search. The engine recognises word A .OR. B .OR. C or any combination of those words. It is not possible to do phrase searches with this software. This makes it effectively impossible to search for Vietnamese terms.

Recognising this problem, we have organised a separate off line database which we can search for you. Please contact us by email on:

Here is a complete list of majordomo commands:

In the description below items contained in []'s are optional. When
providing the item, do not include the []'s around it.  Items in angle
brackets, such as <address>, are meta-symbols that should be replaced
by appropriate text without the angle brackets.

It understands the following commands:

    subscribe avsl-l [<address>]
        Subscribe yourself (or <address> if specified) to the named avsl-l.
        
    unsubscribe avsl-l [<address>]
        Unsubscribe yourself (or <address> if specified) from the named avsl-l.
        "unsubscribe *" will remove you (or <address>) from all lists.  This
        _may not_ work if you have subscribed using multiple addresses.

    get avsl-l <filename>
        Get a file related to avsl-l.

    index avsl-l
        Return an index of files you can "get" for avsl-l.

    which [<address>]
        Find out which lists you (or <address> if specified) are on.

    who avsl-l
        Find out who is on the named avsl-l.

    info avsl-l
        Retrieve the general introductory information for the named avsl-l.

    intro avsl-l
        Retrieve the introductory message sent to new users.  Non-subscribers
        may not be able to retrieve this.

    lists
        Show the lists served by this Majordomo server.

    help
        Retrieve this message.

    end
        Stop processing commands (useful if your mailer adds a signature).

Commands should be sent in the body of an email message to
"Majordomo@coombs.anu.edu.au". Multiple commands can be processed provided
each occurs on a separate line.
