Project
Endeavour Description
In partnership with the National Library of Australia, Dr Paul Turnbull will develop
an on-line interactive multimedia resource focussed on the Cook voyages. This
archive will reproduce Cook's Endeavour journal with an annotated transcription,
which will represent the complex cross-cultural nature of the voyage and the encounters,
particularly in Australia. Indigenous constructions of these histories will be
acknowledged and presented as fully as is feasible. In the future, the resource
may be expanded to range over other voyages, exploration, and colonial histories,
in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Dr Paul Turnbull, who is managing
the project, is one of the most innovative historians working with interactive
multimedia. He has an appointment with the CCR for two years, during which time
we expect to seek major external support, to establish this project as a significant
ongoing strand of Centre activity.
