The "What's New in WWW Asian Studies" Online Newsletter (ISSN
1323-9368) was established in April 1994.
Resources listed in this Newsletter are inspected and
rated in terms of the scholarly quality, overall reliability and usefulness of
their current
content to the social sciences' research in Asia-Pacific region.
All ratings are carried out on a 5 point scale [essential -
v.useful - useful - interesting - marginal] and they deal exclusively with the content (as opposed to
accessibility, navigation or presentation) of a networked source of information. The ratings are correct for the date
a resource is listed in this Newsletter. They reflect the Editor's judgment
without 'fear or favour', and are not negotiable.
The newsletter is provided by the Internet Publications Bureau,
Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies at the Australian National
University (ANU), Canberra as a service
to the World Wide Web academic community.
Its mission is to bring to readers summaries and evaluations of the
latest worthwile developments in web sites and other online
information systems relevant to the Asia and the Pacific region - and especially to
online resources useful to scholary/factual
social sciences research on Asia and Pacific. Announcements are
structured as follows:
(a) Date of the announcement
(b) Content rating (GIF file)
(c) Resource's Title;
(d) Publisher and the country of publication;
(e) Resource's description;
(f) Commentary;
(g) Resource's URL;
(h) Person who brought the Resource to the Newsletter's attention;
(i) Type of the content;
(j) Content rating (words).
The
publication is designed as a current awareness bulletin for a broad
range of readers, including academics, journalists, business people,
politicians, public servants and the broader community. It is also
designed to cater for upper secondary college and first-year
undergraduate students and teachers.

27 Nov 1997 Chinese and Japanese Art History News
Nixi Cura's Personal Web Page, USA
Self-description: "This site provides information on symposia,
conferences, grants and other items of interest to graduate students
of Chinese and Japanese art history. I first established this page in

viewers of this site to contribute news of upcoming events in their
area." The page also offers links to other Asian art web sites
(Calendars of Events, Books, Reference Resources, Museums and
Exhibitions).
[Nixi Cura works at the Institute of Fine Arts, New York
University. Her informative site consists, at present, of a mammoth
132Kb (!) page and would greatly benefit from a division into a
series of interlinked sections - ed.]
