The "What's New in WWW Asian Studies" online newsletter (ISSN
1323-9368) is a part of the Asian Studies
WWW Virtual Library. This facility is provided by the
Australian National University (ANU) as a service to the World Wide
Web community. Announcements published in this Newsletter are also
disseminated on the network via an electronic mailing list
"asia-www-gopher-news-l@coombs.anu.edu.au".

Japanese Text Initiative

The Univ. of Pittsburgh East Asian Library
A collaborative effort to make texts of classical Japanese literature
available on the WWW. The Japanese Text Initiative edition of Japanese
literature includes versions in Japanese (EUC) characters, a Roman
transliteration, and a new English translation. The first text of this
initiative is 'Ogura Hyakunin Isshu' (aka 'Hyakunin Isshu'), or '100
Poems by 100 Poets'.

Chinese literature research. Lao She (1899-1966) wrote Luotuo Xiangzi
