1940 Japan-America
Student Conference
Center for East Asian Studies, University of Kansas, USA
Supplied note:
"The Center [...] is pleased to
announce a new Electronic Publication Series. The first release in the
series is James J. Halsema's 'Diary of the 1940 Japan America Student
Conference,' edited and with an introduction by Grant Goodman. The diary
vividly describes Halsema's experiences during the final prewar JASC and
provides a unique perspective on conditions in Japan, Korea, Manchukuo and
China on the eve of the Pacific War. James Halsema is a retired foreign
service officer and former journalist; Grant Goodman is Professor Emeritus
of History at the University of Kansas [...]. The objective of the new
Electronic Series
(falcon.cc.ukans.edu/~ceas/) is to make available to a wide readership materials of
academic, historical and cultural importance relating to China, Japan and
Korea. The Center especially hopes to publish primary documents,
translations and scholarly studies that are unlikely, largely for financial
reasons, to be produced by commercial or university presses. All
electronic publications will be expected to meet the same standards as the
previous print publications of the Center and will be subject to peer
review by KU faculty and other experts in East Asian studies."
