"The Asian Studies WWW Monitor" (ISSN 1329-9778) was established 21 April 1994. The journal, a pioneering and the only publication of this kind in the world, provides virtually daily abstracts and reviews of new/updated online resources of significance to research, teaching and communications dealing with Asian Studies. It is published by the Internet Publications Bureau, RSPAS, ANU College of Asia and the Pacific. The periodical forms a key element of the global, cooperative project Asian Studies WWW Virtual Library. For further details see a page About the Asian Studies WWW Monitor. The journal is complemented by its sister publication Pacific Studies WWW Monitor which was established in April 2000.

"CALL FOR PAPERS - The Conference on Early Indian Influences in Southeast Asia: Reflections on Cross- Cultural Movements is scheduled to be held from 21 - 23 November 2007 in Singapore.
The conference is organised in conjunction with an exhibition on Early Indian Influences in Southeast Asia (EIISEA) by the National Library Board, Singapore. It will be jointly hosted by the Asia Research Institute (ARI), the Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS) and the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS).
The conference papers will cover the characteristics of the cultural interactions during the period from pre- and proto-history through the classical period of state formations in Southeast Asia.
The conference organisers invite researchers to submit abstracts on the following sub-themes:
1) Naval expeditions and background history of Rajendra Chola in Southeast Asia. 2) Ancient and medieval commercial activities and Chola maritime relationship between India and Southeast Asia. 3) Archaeological and inscriptional evidence and the historical background of cross-cultural movements. 4) Regional cultures and localisation of Indian influences in Southeast Asia. 5) Early Indian science, astronomy, mathematics, art and architecture in Southeast Asia.
Abstracts should be between 150-200 words in length. The abstracts should reach the Conference Secretariat by Tuesday, 15 May 2007. Submission of completed papers is due by Friday, 21 September 2007. Paper presenters will be provided with round-trip economy travel, hotel accommodation, per-diem and an honorarium for the paper presentation in Singapore. The papers will be published as a volume.

"5th Torchinov Conference PHILOSOPHY, RELIGION AND CULTURE OF ASIAN COUNTRIES
CALL FOR PAPERS
The FIFTH annual international conference named in honor of Evgeny Torchinov (1956 - 2003), an outstanding Russian researcher into Asian cultures and methods of religions, is going to be held on the Faculty of Philosophy and Political Studies of the Saint-Petersburg State University (Russia) 6 - 9th February, 2008. Reports, concerning different aspects of the religious, philosophical and cultural phenomenon of Asia, are to be read and discussed. Objectives of Torchinov conference are following: creation of the common multidisciplinary space for fruitful change of ideas between specialists studying different types, images and categories of Asian cultures; formation of new scientific approaches and methods in sphere of Asian and religious studies; elaboration of theories and philosophy of Asian investigations. Scientists studying on different aspects of philosophy, religion and culture of Asia are invited to take part at the conference. Also we invite philosophers, historians, anthropologists, psychologists and specialists in religious studies investigating Eastern humanitarian problems. Besides that materials devoted to general methodological and theoretical sides of religious studies are welcome.
POSSIBLE THEMES TO BE DISCUSSED: Religious-philosophical traditions of Asia, Categories, images and symbols of Ancient Eastern cultures, Western culture in Eastern countries: acceptance and rejection, Eastern cultures in conditions of globalization, Adaptation and understanding of Eastern cultures in Russia and in the West, Artistic culture of traditional Asia, Modern religious movements of Eastern origin, Philosophy and methodology of religion, Eastern psycho-practices and mystic-religious experiences

Postgraduate students working on Southeast Asia are invited to submit abstracts based either on work in progress that is at an advanced stage, or on completed work. NUS students are encouraged to take advantage of this unprecedented opportunity to interact and exchange ideas with students from ASEAN countries as well as those from other regions whose interests focus on Southeast Asia.
This two-day workshop, the second of an annual series of forums for graduate students who work on Southeast Asia, will be organised thematically around issues that include religion, international relations, politics, gender, and language.
