[Extract: "Chinese nationals working in the tribal areas of Pakistan have been the targets of three attacks in the last two years. Two of these took place in Balochistan in May, 2004, and February, 2006, and the third in South Waziristan in October, 2004. Seven Chinese engineers were killed and nine injured in these incidents. [...] The Balochistan area of Pakistan and the Arakan area of Burma have acquired an importance in the eyes of China for reducing its dependence on the Malacca Strait. Proposals for a pipeline from Gwadar to Xinjiang and another from a port yet to be developed on the Arakan coast to Yunnan are already the subject of feasibility studies. [...] The Balochs seem determined to oppose what they perceive as the Punjabi-Chinese joint colonization of their homeland." - b.raman]

From the moment that the Beijing government announced that Falun Gong is an evil cult and persecuted its members, I have firmly and resolutely stood on the side of Falun Gong. Thirdly, no matter from personal experience or scholarly knowledge, I should know more about the brutal nature of the Chinese government than the Falun Gong practitioners, especially their senior members. Fourthly, I do not want my words to be used by the Beijing authorities to conceal or lessen their evil deeds. Fifthly, I hope that everybody (including myself) respect the facts and put the truth above everything else. In the following, let me use the narrative technique to describe my experience and knowledge about the Sujiatun affair in chronological order [...]'"

New Resources From Silk Road Seattle

Silk Road Geography: An introductory essay and a new set of image galleries featuring landscapes and geography of Eurasia.
Museum Collections: Most of the images have captions which include where possible references to published catalogues and further information. All of the new material is in the section of 'Featured Museums.'
1. Images from the State Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg, Russia - Over 975 images, a good many being recent color photographs, among them: an excellent selection of the early Inner Asian nomad imaterials, especially from the Pazyryk burials, an extensive collection of Sasanian silver, Islamic ceramics and much more.
- We have digitized and posted the largest part of the images in Smirnov's magnificent 1909 portfolio, Eastern Silver (Vostochnoe serebro). - Images and a pdf file of the complete English text from Boris Marshak's Sogdian Silver (Sogdiiskoe serebro) (1971), posted with the kind permission of the author;
- Images and a pdf file of the complete text of Camilla Trever, Excavations in Northern Mongolia (1924-1925) (1932) on the first Noin Ula excavations.
2. Images from the State Historical Museum in Moscow, including many good ones of early Central Asian material and of Golden Horde (Mongol) material.
3. Extensive additions to our previously posted collection of images from the National Museum of Mongolian History in Ulaanbaatar. The selection includes a lot of Xiongnu material, quite a few images of the recently-excavated Bilge Qaghan treasure, and a substantial amount of material from the period of the Mongol Empire.
4. Images of the outstanding collection of Mongolian Buddhist ritual objects and art in the Choijin Lama Museum, Ulaanbaatar.
