It is published by the Internet Publications Bureau, RSPAS, National Institute for Asia and the Pacific, ANU. The periodical forms a key element of the global, cooperative project Asian Studies WWW Virtual Library. For further details see a page About the Asian Studies WWW Monitor. The journal is complemented by its sister publication Pacific Studies WWW Monitor which was established in April 2000.

Explosions in Southern Philippines: The Background

Supplied note: "The latest paper of the Institute For Topical Studies, A-2/3, Bharathi Dasan Colony, K.K.Nagar, Chennai---600078, India, (Tele.Fax.No. 44-4895235) on the above subject is now available at the Web site of the South Asia Analysis Group (SAAG), New Delhi, at [the URL below] - br."
Extract: "What the Filippino counter-terrorism agencies face is part urban terrorism, part rural insurgency and part sheer gangsterism. The mix is similar to what Moscow has been facing in Chechnya. [...] Of all the countries in S.E.Asia, [only] Thailand emulates the Indian counter-terrorism techniques which emphasise taking the threat seriously in private, but avoiding over-playing it in public." - b.raman.

Arrest of Khalid Sheikh Mohammad: How Significant?
Institute For Topical Studies, Chennai, India
Supplied note: "The latest paper of the Institute For Topical Studies, A-2/3, Bharathi Dasan Colony, K.K.Nagar, Chennai---600078, India, (Tele.Fax.No. 44-4895235) on the above subject is now available at the Web site of the South Asia Analysis Group (SAAG), New Delhi, at [the URL below] - br."
Extract: "It is doubtful whether the arrest of Khalid would cause any major disruptions in the operations of the dregs of the IIF [i.e. bin Laden's International Islamic Front (IIF) - ed.] spread out in Asia. Claims that his arrest could deliver a serious blow to terrorist operations in S.E.Asia are unduly over-optimistic and unwarranted." - b.raman.
