Self-description: "The Falun Dafa Information Center is a volunteer group of individuals dedicated to bringing you up to the minute information regarding the persecution against the peaceful practitioners of Falun Gong in China, and also serves as a watchdog group for illegal activities of the Chinese government as it seeks to carry out its illegal persecution overseas. [...]
Since the leader of China, Jiang Zemin, began the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in 1999: 100 million people practiced Falun Gong in 1998, but lost that right when Jiang banned it in 1999. Hundreds of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners have been illegally arrested and detained. More than 500 have been sentenced to prison terms of up to 18 years. More than 1,000 have been forced into mental hospitals, an act condemned by World Psychiatric Association. Over 100,000 have been illegally sent to labor camps without trials. At least 572 deaths through police torture have been confirmed, with government sources inside China disclosing that the actual number exceeds 1,600. "

Extract: "India should oppose it [the US imposed regime-change in Iraq] because it would be morally wrong and unwise and would be counter-productive. It could make Iraq a breeding-ground for a new crop of punishment or catastrophic or new terrorists at a time when the world is still coping with those earlier bred in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The world has to think of other ways of addressing the legitimate concerns of the US and Israel vis-a-vis Iraq." - b.raman.

["The budget for fiscal 2004 sent to the US Congress by President Bush in the last week of January, 2003, does not contain any allocation for assisting the anti-Saddam Hussein opposition in Iraq, as against allocations amounting to US $25 million per annum provided for in the budgets for fiscal 2002 and 2003. Central Eurasia Project, Open Society Institute, New York, NY, USA
Supplied note: "In December of 2002 The Open Society Institute announced the launch of a new initiative, the Turkmenistan Project. The project will build on the work OSI has done since the 1990s to promote civil society in Turkmenistan, a closed and repressive country in Central Asia that was part of the former Soviet Union. That work has included grant-making and programmatic activities in areas as far-ranging as arts and culture, access to information, and public health. The Turkmenistan Project plans to add resources and implement its goals for civil society in a more strategic and comprehensive way. [...] We invite you to subscribe to our Turkmenistan project list-serv, which appears in both Russian and English, and is open to anyone. List-serv recipients will receive between 3 and 10 messages a week, posting news updates, announcements of reports about Turkmenistan, diplomatic statements, and other relevant information. To add names or unsubscribe, please send a message to turkmenistan@sorosny.org - ef."
