Online Monier-Williams Sanskrit-English Lexicon
Cologne Sanskrit Dictionary Project, University of Cologne, Cologne, Germany
Self-description: "This HTML version of the 'Monier-Williams Sanskrit-English Dictionary' [1899, Oxford:Clarendon Press - ed.] stems from a text file of the Cologne Digital Sanskrit Lexicon (CDSL). The CDSL itself results from a project described in the 'Report on the Cologne Sanskrit Dictionary Project.'
This version is available through the generosity of Drs Thomas Malten (Universitaet zu Koeln) and Claude Setzer (Fairfield, Iowa). Dr Malten kindly allowed the lexicon to be made available in this form. Dr Setzer provided a CD-ROM of the lexicon without which this version could not have been made.
These files were produced by altering and removing markup in the original. It is hoped that this has resulted in HTML that is easy to scan. The lexicon still needs to be extensively tested. Please send all comments and corrections to Richard Mahoney : r.mahoney@comnet.net.nz .
N.B. Each separate file is compressed with `gzip'. A collection of all of the files is available as a 'gzipped tarball' : mw_dict_all_current.tar.gz (7238k). For installation instructions consult the README.

September 2003 season of excavations in Uzbekistan
Central Asian Programme (USCAP), University of Sydney, Sydney, Australia
Self-description: "The work of the Expedition is focused on the Tash-k'irman Oasis, one of the last preserved archaeological zones in Chorasmia. Much of the rest has been heavily disturbed by agricultural activity. Three sites are under excavation: Kazakl'i-yatkan,Tash-k'irman-tepe and Kara-tepe. Kazakl'i-yatkan is one of the largest fortified sites in the land and may either have been a capital of ancient Chorasmia or, perhaps more likely, a major sacred centre at sometime between the 4th century B.C. and the 1st or early 2nd century A.D. Tash-k'irman-tepe is a monumental religious complex with a fire temple which may date back to the early stages of the Zoroastrian religion. Kara-tepe is a small fortress which appears to have been founded in the 'Kushan' period around the 2nd century A.D. with occupation up to the 7th century A.D."
Supplied note: "The University of Sydney Central Asian Programme is again inviting volunteers to join their September 2003 season of excavations in Uzbekistan. Participants will spend 13 days working with archaeologists on the major fortified site of Kazakl'i-yatkan in the Oxus delta before going on to a tour of the Silk Road cities of Khiva, Samarkand and Bukhara - ab."

Bangladesh-China Defence Co-Operation Agreement's Strategic Implications: An Analysis
South Asia Analysis Group (SAAG), New Delhi, India
"Bangladesh-China Defence Co-Operation Agreement's Strategic Implications: An Analysis" by Dr. Subhash Kapila.
["China does seem to have a grand strategic design in South Asia, basically focused on the strategic encirclement of India and imprison her within South Asia confines. The bitter strategic reality for India is that it has no friends in South Asia. India to break out of the strategic bind imposed by China, needs to lessen the conventional and nuclear weapons gap with China. India's ICBM and SLBM development programmes need to be put into over-drive." - s.kapila]
