"The Asian Studies WWW Monitor" (ISSN 1329-9778) was established 21 April 1994. The periodical forms a key element of the global, cooperative project Asian Studies WWW Virtual Library. For further details of this Internet Publications Bureau, RSPAS, ANU publication see a page About the Asian Studies WWW Monitor. The journal is complemented by its sister publication Pacific Studies WWW Monitor which was established in April 2000.

The Convention will feature 108 panels, spread over eleven sessions from Thursday April 5, 1 PM, to Saturday April 7, in the evening. More than 500 people will be on panels. Site contents: The Asia section contains the description of recent incidents concerning journalists and press freedom in China, Hong Kong, and other parts of Asia. The 2000 Annual Report / Asia contains information on countries of that continent. "[O]n 1 January 2000, Asia was the continent with the most journalists in jail. Burma, where 13 media professionals are behind bars, is the worldıs biggest prison for the press. Journalists are also being held in China (9), Vietnam (4), Nepal (at least 3), Pakistan (1) and South Korea (1)."

SANS S-101 Elementary Sanskrit (8 units) Monday-Thursday 3:30 - 6 p.m. June 25 - August 17; exam period Aug. 14-17 Instructor: Michael Witzel. This course, equivalent to two semesters of course work, will enable students to acquire the basic reading skills in Sanskrit. Stress will be placed on learning the Devanagari script, basic grammar and essential vocabulary. Emphasis will also be given to correct translation of passages from simple narrative literature to the epics."

Supplied note: "[The site] has been put togther by Dr Steve Rake of the University of Southampton, using traditional songs and stories of the Miao people of South West China collected and translated by the Rev. Keith Parsons. (Keith is the son of Bible Christian Missionaries Harry and Annie Parson who were colleagues of Sam Pollard in Yunnan Province in the early years of the last century). There are also sections on the symbols and sounds of the Miao script and Miao history and social life."
