scholars who are interested in the study of the history, languages,
cultures, and modern states and societies of the Turkic, Mongolian, Iranian,
Caucasian, Tibetan and other peoples of the Black Sea region, the Crimea,
the Caucasus, the Middle Volga region, Central and Inner Asia and Siberia.
The Central Eurasian Studies Society's purpose is to promote high standards
of research and teaching, and to promote and facilitate communication among
scholars through meetings and publications.
The Central Eurasian Studies Society would like to invite scholars whose
interests fall within the above description to become members. While CESS's
activities will be U.S. based, this invitation is open to scholars from all

DharmaLens: The North American Tibetan Documentary Project and Web Archives

"Operating under the auspices of The Zhang Zhung Foundation, Inc., and
in association with The Tonpa Shenrab Institute , DharmaLens is the
first project of its kind, an unique and extraordinary documentary and
www-based media production project. DharmaLens will be actively and
comprehensively documenting and archiving images recording the
continuing growth of Tibetan culture in North America. DharmaLens will
maintain free online image bank archives of items it documents as well
as a user-built, members image bank. In addition, DharmaLens will
provide free use of online versions of its images for use by

The Canada Tibet Committee (CTC)

"The Canada Tibet Committee (CTC) [est. 1987] is an independent
non-governmental organisation of Tibetans and non-Tibetans living in
Canada, who are concerned about the continuing human rights violations
and lack of democratic freedom in Tibet. It seeks to stop the ongoing
destruction of the Tibetan culture, to alleviate the suffering of the
Tibetan people and to restore Tibet to its status as an independent
state within the family of nations. The Canada Tibet Committee is
committed to the principle of non-violence and opposes the use of
violence as a means of resolving conflict. The Canada Tibet Committee
recognizes the Tibetan Government-in-exile as the leigitimate
representative of the Tibetan people.
The CTC works to achieve its goals by:
* Compiling and distributing current information about Tibet;
* Advocating on behalf of the Tibetan people via outreach campaigns to government, non-governmental
organisations, the public and the media;
* Conducting seminars and speaker tours, organizing cultural events and publishing reports;
* Developing the Canada Tibet Committee into a cross-Canada network."

The Samantabhadra Archives
The Nyingma Tantras Project, University of Virgina, USA
Self-description: "The Samantabhadra
Archives is an electronic and collaborative project aiming at the
reproduction, analysis, interpretation, and translation (as
appropriate) of Tibetan literature. At present we are focused on
Nyingma and Bonpo literature, but plan eventually to expand to other
types of Tibetan literature as well. Or intial focus is on the
various editions of of the great canonical collection of Tibetan
Buddhist scriptures known as The Collected Tantras of the Ancients
(rnying ma rgyud 'bum). The Archives is a scholarly venture based at
the University of Virgina administered by the Institute for the
Advanced Technology in the Humanities (IATH) at the University of
Virginia, and is also being developed in collaboration with the
Fondren Library of Rice University. The Archives should be fully open
to the public by the summer of 2000, prior to which the site will be
updated periodically so that interested individuals may follow its
progress."
