Author: Tirtayasa, I G. N. (compiler)

Title: Bibliography of social aspects of agriculture in Bali, compiled by I G. N. Tirtayasa. Sydney, BISA (Bibliographic Information on Southeast Asia), University of Sydney, 1988. microfiche (94 frames), negative, 11x15cm. ISBN 0867582715 Series: BISA special projects 32.

Coverage: Social aspects of agriculture in Bali. Changing agricultural practices in Bali, the result of mechanisation, new technology and foreign influences, have brought about changes in social life and customs. Works listed deal wholly or in part with these changes. Unpublished reports from universities and research centres, as well as government publications, are included. Nearly all publications were published in the 1970s or 1980s. Useful list of Balinese names and honorifics is included.

No. of items: Approximately 830

Structure: Entries arranged alphabetically by subject or place name (e.g. Buleleng). Most works cited are in Indonesian, with some in English. No locations for the entries are given, but five libraries are listed as the locations for citing the material. Not listed in Kemp 1990.

Evaluation: Though increasingly outdated, the bibliography remains a valuable contribution to a subject which continues to be of a topic of concern as the influence of tourism on Bali has an impact on the agriculture of the island. "...[T]he bibliography is far from perfect" (Introduction). Could have been improved with the inclusion of an author index.
