Coverage: List of documents in the Indonesian National Archives relating to Kyai Maja, religious leader from near Surakarta. Kyai Maja was one of the main supporters of Diponegoro in the Java War against the Dutch, 1825-1830. The documents cover relations between Kyai Maja and the Dutch government and relate to peace talks, the ending of the war and Kyai Maja's subsequent exile to Menado. The documents are dated between 1827 and 1840.
No. of items: 27 (several entries contain a number of separate documents).
Structure: Arranged chronologically. Each entry contains an abstract of the contents and the source of the document in the National Archives. There is a bibliography of histories which cover the Java War.
Evaluation: Important guide in handy format for anyone working on the religious, as well as political aspects of the Java War.
