The Anthropology of the
Mentawai Islands A collection of articles and list of
resources from the disciplinary perspective of social/cultural anthropology,
having the Mentawai Islands, Sumatra, Indonesia, as their focus. Includes
detailed ethnographic data and interpretations of key cultural practices
of the indigenous inhabitants of the southern region of Siberut, the largest
island in the group.

taken by the Dutch expeditonary force to Aceh in 1874 and makes references
to Ahmad al-Qushashi, an Indian mystic active in Medina in the seventeenth

Concordance Project (ANU) Although concentrating on classical Malay literature
with texts featured as contributed by a number of leading academics, such
works are equally a part of the "Indonesian" tradition. This site, assembled
by Ian Proudfoot, is highly recommended for any scholar of Malay literature.

Washington DC and comprised of Americans, Indonesians, and others interested
in the music and dance of Bali. Their website includes audio files as well

of American musicians and dancers dedicated to the study and performance
