The Anthropology of the
Mentawai Islands A collection of articles and list of
resources from the disciplinary perspective of social/cultural anthropology,
having the Mentawai Islands, Sumatra, Indonesia, as their focus. Includes
detailed ethnographic data and interpretations of key cultural practices
of the indigenous inhabitants of the southern region of Siberut, the largest
island in the group.

Mandailing people in Malaysia as well as Indonesia. The website will be

Tours and International Studios (ARTIS), USA ARTIS is a nonprofit arts organization that hosts top-of-the-line
summer study abroad programs in the studio arts and art history. Month
long programs in Bali offer daily field trips and weekly out-of-town excursions.

from across the Indonesian archipelago, Irian Jaya and Papua New Guinea,

These are really firendy guys - I'd recommend their mailing

Indonesica project, Leiden University, the Netherlands. This text was
taken by the Dutch expeditonary force to Aceh in 1874 and makes references
to Ahmad al-Qushashi, an Indian mystic active in Medina in the seventeenth

The Lontar Foundation A not for profit organisation promoting Indonesian literature,
culture and artists.
Concordance Project (ANU) Although concentrating on classical Malay literature
with texts featured as contributed by a number of leading academics, such
works are equally a part of the "Indonesian" tradition. This site, assembled
by Ian Proudfoot, is highly recommended for any scholar of Malay literature.

Gamelan Mitra Kusuma "Gamelan Mitra Kusuma is a Balinese gamelan based in
Washington DC and comprised of Americans, Indonesians, and others interested
in the music and dance of Bali. Their website includes audio files as well
as information about the group's activities.
Gamelan Sekar Jaya "A thirty-five member ensemble
of American musicians and dancers dedicated to the study and performance
of Balinese music and dance."
