"The Pacific Studies WWW Monitor" (ISSN 1443-8976) was established 12 April 2000. The journal, a pioneering and the only publication of this kind in the world, provides weekly abstracts and reviews of new/updated online resources of significance to research, teaching and communications dealing with Pacific Studies. It is modelled on its sister publication Asian Studies WWW Monitor which was established in April 1994. The periodical forms a key element of the global, cooperative project Pacific Studies WWW Virtual Library.

The Centre for the Contemporary Pacific, in conjunction with the International Centre of Excellence in Asia-Pacific Studies and the National Institute for Asia and the Pacific, invites honours and postgraduate students and recent doctoral graduates in the humanities and social sciences to participate in the Pacific Islands Workshop to be held during The Australian National University's second annual 'Asia Pacific Week', 31 January - 4 February 2005. [..] The workshop will comprise up to six thematic sessions, each to be introduced and chaired by a senior Pacific scholar. Papers should be no more than 15-20 minutes in length. [...] The Pacific Islands Workshop 2005 is to be held in conjunction with summer schools in Thai Studies, Indonesian Studies, Korea Studies, Pacific Island Studies, Asia-Pacific Cultural Heritage Studies and Asia-Pacific Defense Studies. [...]
Limited funds are available to help defray travel and accommodation costs for participants. Honours-level and postgraduate studentsas well as recent doctoral graduatesmay apply for assistance.

* Fiji Update-Lautoka, Friday 3 September, Waterfront Hotel, Lautoka, 10.00am-3.30pm.
The discussions will centre on a survey of the Fiji economy (published in the Pacific Economic Bulletin), an analysis of the sugar industry, and a panel discussion on the role of Australia's aid in the Pacific. Programs are available at http://apseg.anu.edu.au
