Interdisciplinary Centre of East Asian Studies (IZO)
Goethe University, Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
Self-description:
"The Interdisciplinary Centre of East Asian Studies [Interdisziplinaeres Zentrum fuer Ostasienstudien (IZO) - ed.] at Frankfurt University is an academic institution aimed at strengthening education and research about modern East Asia in its historical context from a variety of disciplinary perspectives. The strengthening of interdisciplinary, theoretically grounded and conceptual research on modern East Asia, in particular China, Japan, Southeast Asia and Korea, is one of our guiding principles. Our research is focused on topics of long term social relevance.
The Interdisciplinary Centre of East Asian Studies (IZO) draws on a variety of approaches to modern East Asia: Regional and cultural expertise, such as competence in the fields of philology, history and cultural sciences, is combined with social, legal and economic expertise, both through the Centre's chairs and their research as well as external academic institutions."
