International Conference on Asian Folklore (ICAF 2009), Bangkok, 2-3 July 2009
Department of Thai, Faculty of Arts, Silpakorn University, Muang Nakhonpathom 73000, Thailand.
Self-description:
"An International Conference on Asian Folklore (ICAF 2009), 2-3 July 2009 at The Miracle Grand Hotel, Bangkok.
Although in Thailand the science of folklore studies started around the year 1957, studies and research works on folklore had started abroad since the middle of the nineteenth century. All through the years since the dawn of folklore studies, numerous published research works have emerged. International conferences on issues related to folklore have been held in many countries, and folklore research studies have consequently been promoted to academic recognition, resulting in academic co-operation between universities around the globe. Thus perceiving a conference's contribution to the studies of folklore, The Faculty of Arts, Silpakorn Univesity, with the Faculty of Humanities, Naresuan University, and The Center of Folklore Research, The Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University, as co-hosts, has organized "An International Conference on Asian Folklore 2009" (ICAF 2009). This international conference is also co-sponsored by The Thai Commission on Higher Education. It is a platform for Thai and non-Thai academics to present and share their folklore knowledge. It also provides an opportunity for Thai academics to gain international recognition for folklore research. In addition, the conference will help build national and international research networks that will encourage both folklore curricular development and long-term folklore research cohorts. It is expected that around 150 Thai and non-Thai academics will attend the conference."
