Self-description: "The Centre d'Etudes Himalayennes (CEH) [Centre of Himalayan Studies] is a library and documentation centre of the CNRS covering the entire Himalayan region (Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan, Sikkim and northeast India). It is primarily intended for the use of researchers and students in the humanities and social sciences (anthropology, religion, geography, history, economics, politics, linguistics, the arts, etc.). The Centre's holdings include 15,000 books, dissertations, theses and reports; more than 1,000 maps and 600 periodical titles. All documents are catalogued and indexed; articles in periodicals and chapters in collective works are selectively indexed. The library is in the process of computerization; more than 40,000 bibliographic records may currently be consulted. The CEH is part of the new Andre-Georges Haudricourt documentation centre. It brings together the holdings of several CNRS units : LACITO - Langues et Civilisations a tradition orale; LLACAN - Langues et Cultures d'Afrique noire; EREA - Ethnologie amerindienne; LASEMA - Asie du sud-est et monde austronesien; CELIA - Linguistique amerindienne; LEAPLE - Acquisition et pathologie du langage chez l'enfant; OSTERLITS : Oral/Oural : Systemes en transit et recherches linguistiques sur la traduction du sens; LMS : Langues - Musiques - Societes."
