"5th Torchinov Conference PHILOSOPHY, RELIGION AND CULTURE OF ASIAN COUNTRIES
CALL FOR PAPERS
The FIFTH annual international conference named in honor of Evgeny Torchinov (1956 - 2003), an outstanding Russian researcher into Asian cultures and methods of religions, is going to be held on the Faculty of Philosophy and Political Studies of the Saint-Petersburg State University (Russia) 6 - 9th February, 2008. Reports, concerning different aspects of the religious, philosophical and cultural phenomenon of Asia, are to be read and discussed. Objectives of Torchinov conference are following: creation of the common multidisciplinary space for fruitful change of ideas between specialists studying different types, images and categories of Asian cultures; formation of new scientific approaches and methods in sphere of Asian and religious studies; elaboration of theories and philosophy of Asian investigations. Scientists studying on different aspects of philosophy, religion and culture of Asia are invited to take part at the conference. Also we invite philosophers, historians, anthropologists, psychologists and specialists in religious studies investigating Eastern humanitarian problems. Besides that materials devoted to general methodological and theoretical sides of religious studies are welcome.
POSSIBLE THEMES TO BE DISCUSSED: Religious-philosophical traditions of Asia, Categories, images and symbols of Ancient Eastern cultures, Western culture in Eastern countries: acceptance and rejection, Eastern cultures in conditions of globalization, Adaptation and understanding of Eastern cultures in Russia and in the West, Artistic culture of traditional Asia, Modern religious movements of Eastern origin, Philosophy and methodology of religion, Eastern psycho-practices and mystic-religious experiences
Organizational committee accepts requests for organization of round tables (till 17 December 2007). Submitting proposals for the conference (by e-mail) is open to postgraduates and professionals till 3rd December, 2007. Application should include following information: 1. Name, surname: 2. Deadline for submitting papers (till 3500 words with footnotes , only by e-mail) is 17th December, 2007. Registration fee for foreign participants (it is paid at the registration) is 30 Euro.
