Chinese Studies Postgraduate Forum 29-30 June 2005
The University of Melbourne, Parkville, VIC, Australia
Supplied note: "The University of Melbourne Chinese Studies Research Group (CSRG) invites postgraduates to participate in this inaugural pre-CSAA 2005 postgraduate forum. The aim of the forum is to provide an opportunity for postgraduates from around Australia researching within the field of Chinese Studies to informally meet and share ideas about their research experiences.
The forum will revolve around four research themes and provide 12 postgraduates with the chance to present a paper in an informal peer environment with some positive feedback and discussions. Each panel will also include some of Australia's leading academics as discussants, including: Professor Geremie Barme (ANU), Professor David Holm (UM), Dr Gloria Davies (Monash), and Dr Antonia Finnane (UM).
The conference themes stem from the difficulty of approaching Chinese Studies from numerous disciplinary backgrounds and across cultural and linguistic borders. The conference emphasis is on inter-connections, boundaries and junctions within Chinese studies. The theme is intended to reflect the zones where disciplines, topics and languages overlap or appear fractured.
The Keynote Speaker will be Dr Luigi Tomba from ANU. In addition, Professor Ellen Widmer from Wesleyan University (USA) will host a small workshop for those interested in nineteenth and early twentieth century Chinese literature.
To register interest in attending only (not presenting) please email: chinesestudies-conf2005@unimelb.edu.au. - bhy."
