Asian Currents e-bulletin
Asian Studies Association of Australia (ASAA), Australia.
Supplied note:
"I am writing to tell you about a new monthly e-bulletin, 'Asian Currents' [ISSN 1449-4418], to which you may like to subscribe. It is published by the Asian Studies Association of Australia (ASAA) [http://coombs.anu.edu.au/ASAA] with a view to encouraging greater attention to Asian studies in Australia which, regrettably, face an insecure future. The core of Asian expertise in the universities is shrinking and student opportunities to study Asia are declining just at the time when greater knowledge of Asia is an essential element in preserving Australia's security and enhancing its prosperity.
The contents of the first bulletin, published this week, are:
* About the ASAA
* Maximising Australia's Asian Knowledge
* Korea: analysis by Professor Tessa Morris-Suzuki
* Diary dates: ASAA biennial conference and Press Club Luncheon in June [2004]
* Researcher of the month: Robert Cribb
* Student of the month: Linda Rae Bennett
* Website of the month: Asian Studies Virtual Library
* Congratulations: RMIT International University Vietnam
* Recent article of interest: Asian language study and Australian security
* Feedback
