[An important and promising collaborative initiative, launched in Feb 2000. The website, when completed, will contain an (1) on-line historical dictionary of South Asia; (2) an encyclopedia of indexed on-line essays; (3) annotated bibliographies of works in the field and other reference materials; (4) an image bank of historical and contemporary South Asian political figures, cityscapes and landscapes, secular and religious architecture, the arts, and maps; (6) a digital archive of documents, texts, translations, and other primary sources; (7) course syllabi; (8) information about the study and teaching of South Asian languages, especially Hindi; (9) details about study and internship abroad programs in South Asia. The Project's goal is to include materials that will be of utility to a wide range of users, emphasizing those materials and resources that are not currently available on the Internet, and are not easily accessible through inter-library loan or other similar means - ed.]
