An International Colloquium held by the ESA 7043 of the CNRS 'Societes et Cultures en Europe' (Strasbourg) with the support of the European Science Foundation, the Islamic Area Studies Project (Tokyo), Maison des Sciences de l'Homme (Paris), Paris, Carre des Sciences, November 12-13, 2001-10-21. [...] Session 1: Oral and Written Culture; Session 2: 'High' and 'Popular' Culture; Session 3: History and Memory; Session 4: A Typology of Authority? [...] most of the communications will be given, and all the discussions will be held in English.
