Kirti Institute for Higher Tibetan Studies
Kirti Institute for Higher Tibetan Studies, Dharamsala, India
Self-description:
"The Institute was founded [in 1990 by Rongchen Choekyi Gyalpo
Rinpoche, Minister of the Department of Religion and Culture of the Tibetan Government-in-Exile
(www.tibet.com) - ed.] with the aim of preserving Tibet's unique
cultural and religious heritage. To ensure that this heritage is not
lost, Kirti Institute offers young monks from Tibet [over 200 monks
from 48 different monasteries from 17 districts of Tibet - ed.] an
opportunity to study Tibetan culture and religion in an environment
free from persecution. Once their studies are complete, many of our
students return to Tibet to teach in the monasteries and provinces
from which they came, thereby uplifting the cultural and religious
literacy of the people of Tibet."
