Supplied note:
"Since its inception in 1960 when the library started with the
acquisition of the Pu-pan collection, it has now become the biggest
research collection of Asian language materials in Canada. In 2000, its
holdings in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, South Asian and Indonesian
exceeds 500,000 volumes. While the collection is comprehensive in its
range of subjects, it is especially strong in the humanities and
social sciences. Our special materials include the valuable Pu-pan
collection, Swann collection, research materials on Pearl Delta Area
and a collection of photographs on Chinese illegal immigrants."
