Exhibition of Yao manuscripts
Bavarian State Library Munich, Germany
Supplied note:
"The Bavarian State Library stages the exhibition 'Instructions to the
Gods. Religious manuscripts of the Yao - South China, Vietnam, Laos,
Thailand, Myanmar' from 4th of Nov to 22nd of Dec 1999. Within the
last years more than 1000 manuscripts of the Yao, an ethnic group
living in China and her southern neighbouring states, have been
acquired. The manuscripts written in Chinese characters are up to 260
years old, most of them are religious manuals and show clear relations
to Chinese Daoism. The Department of Rare Manuscripts of the Bavarian
State Library herewith owns one of the most outstanding collections of
its kind in the West. Together with ritual objects of the library's
collections a selection of manuscripts will be shown to the public for
the first time."
