Beyond the Silk Road: arts of Central Asia
Powerhouse Museum, Sydney, Australia
Supplied note:
"The Powerhouse Museum in Sydney, Australia is currently [27 Aug 1999
Jun 2000] holding an exhibition [...which] features textiles, rugs,
costumes, antiquities, ceramics and metalwork from various parts of
Central Asia. For further information see the museum's web site at
[the URL below]. A full colour [paper] catalogue of the show is
available.
For anyone who is interested in Central Asian textiles, the National
Gallery of Australia in Canberra also has a good collection (a number
of NGA pieces can be seen in the Powerhouse exhibition). The National Gallery of Australia's
catalogue can be accessed via its website at
http://www.nga.gov.au. The catalogue of central Asian works is
currently in the process of being updated and should be much more
comprehensive by the end of the year."
[The PHM web provides a very general description of the exhibition's
contents. Melanie Eastburn (see below) is an Assistant Curator, Asian
Art, National Gallery of Australia, Canberra - ed.]
