Internews Central Asia
Internews, USA.
Self-description:
"Internews' activities in Central Asia encourage the growth of new
democratic institutions, in particular free media, in Kazakhstan, the
Kyrghyz Republic, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Television and radio
stations in this region face many obstacles, including changes in
licensing requirements, poor cash flow, a crumbling transportation
infrastructure, irregular electricity, and civil war. Internews'
offices in Almaty, Bishkek, Tashkent, and Dushanbe are a major source
of support for fledgling non-governmental broadcast stations in each
country."
