South Asia After the Nuclear Tests: Where Do We Go From Here?
Asia Society, USA
Supplied note:
"The participants at this workshop represented
different constituencies and audiences in the
nuclear debate (arms experts, anti-nuclear
activists, policymakers, etc). The first session
of the workshop considered the motivations for
carrying out the nuclear tests (for both India
and Pakistan) and the domestic implications
thereof. The second
session focussed on the possible future trajectory
of the nuclear programmes in both countries.
The third session addressed the implications for
the Asia-Pacific region, and the final session
examined the economic implications of the tests
with particular focus on the sanctions imposed on
India and Pakistan by Japan and the US."
