"The Asian Centre, Penang, specializes in research
and documentation of traditional Malay performing
arts. On this subject it has developed one of
Malaysia's major resource collections. Materials
include video recordings, slides and photographs.
The Centre also has wider interest in traditional
Malay culture as a whole.
Recent publications of the Centre include
volumes on traditional Malay music and the shadow
play (wayang kulit). Forthcoming publications
include a book on Mak Yong, the ancient dance
theatre."
