Supplied note:
"While serving as topographer for a Carnegie-sponsored scientific
expedition in north China in 1903-1904, [R. Harvey Sargent] took
a series of pictures mostly in Hebei, Shanxi, and Shaanxi
provinces. With support from the Newport [RI] Public Library and the
Maine Humanities Council, a selection of these pictures has been
reproduced, captioned, and mounted in museum-quality frames for
display. There are also explanatory panels, a map, and a few
associated artifacts."
