Asia in Helsinki - Dramatic Arts Festival
Alexander Theatre, Helsinki, Finland
"A new annual festival which will be organized each May starting in 1997, and whose 'home stage' is the long-established Alexander Theatre in Helsinki. The 1997 guest performers are a Chinese Kun Opera troupe, a Japanese buto dancer and an Indonesian solo dancer. For 1998 we have planned a Chinese Yue opera (solely performed by women) and Vietnamese artists. The theme in 1999 will be India. WWW pages will be added every year but even now there is interesting material on Kun-opera (including a video clip & sound excerpt), Indonesian Topeng dance (a sound clip). The site is available in Finnish, as well as in English and few words in Indonesian, Japanese & Chinese."
