You may well notice that the CIA World Factbook has been cloned again and again by
the authors of the 'information' pages listed below. I intend to review the issue
of the representation of 'distant places' on the web in a more formal way at some
stage in the near future.
CIA World Factbook 2002
Let me see ... how many mistakes are there? Life expectancy at birth 63.46 years - this site pushes the figure up on an annual basis; ethnic groups: Melanesian, Papuan, Negrito, Micronesian, Polynesian - Negrito!?; religions: Roman Catholic 22%, Lutheran 16%, ... indigenous beliefs 34% - what was that last one?; GDP - real growth rate: 2.9% (2000 est.) - this is unlikely; television broadcast stations: 3 (1997) - who remembers NTN (but not in 1997); military manpower - availability: 1,306,159 (2001 est.) - hmm, I think it's time to stop.

Emulate Me ™ - PNG
Useless clone of the CIA site, complete with Negritos and "religion: 34% indigenous beliefs" (see CIA Factbook comments).

Papua New Guinea
Slick site but most facts date to 1998 and there is extensive copying from the CIA site (but life expectancy is the CIA's 1998 figure of 58 years not its annually improved figure which now stands at 63 years).

Papua New Guinea on CountryReports.org
Another useless site copied from the CIA: arable land: 0.1% / elections: none; the monarch is hereditary etc etc.
