The CJK Users' Meeting this year was held in the beautiful campus of the University of Western
Australia on 21 September. A total of 11 librarians representing 7 CJK member libraries attended the half
day meeting to hear more about the new Libraries Australia services. Everyone expressed deep appreciation
to the CJK team for their hard work in creating the NCJK system in mid-1996 and unfailing support to
all users throughout the years.
Due to be implemented in late November, the new Libraries Australia system will enable the CJK
database to integrate with the National Bibliographic Database so that users can use the powerful search
interface of Libraries Australia Search Service to retrieve all records and Australian holdings regardless
of language. It would also be tremendously useful for inter-library loan purposes. All attendees looked
forward to these new developments.
The CJK Users' Meeting will cease in its current form once the NCJK System winds up. The Resource
Sharing Division of the National Library, however, will provide a forum in the Annual Users' Meeting for
librarians with CJK interest to discuss related issues. The CJK-L discussion list will also continue.
The meeting concluded at around 12.30 p.m. After lunch most attendees had a quick tour of the
University of Western Australia Library and the Murdoch University Library before enjoying a bite at a
new Chinese restaurant in downtown Perth. A tradition of CJK Users' Meetings, the dinner provided a
perfect setting for more networking among this specialized group of librarians.
