CONSTITUTION OF THE
AUSTRALASIAN INTERNATIONAL STUDIES ASSOCIATION

This is the Constitution of the Australasian International Studies Association (AISA).

A draft Constitution was adopted at the inaugural meeting of the Association, held at La Trobe University on 5 July 1995. It was revised in consultation with members of the Association and the final Constitution was confirmed by a postal ballot of members in February 1996.

1.	The Association shall be called the Australasian International
Studies Association.

2.	The aim of the Association is to promote collaboration,
interaction and networking among researchers, teachers, students,
practitioners interested in international relations.

3.	Any person who is engaged in the research, teaching, studying
or practice of international relations shall be eligible for full
membership.

4.	The Association shall, at its Annual General Meeting, elect an
Executive consisting of the following officers, with due regard to
equitable social representation:

	President
	Hon. Secretary
	Hon. Treasurer
	Newsletter Editor
	Postgraduate Representative

4.1	The method of election shall be in accordance with rules adopted
by a simply majority of financial members present and voting at an
Annual General Meeting.

5.	The immediate Past President shall be a member of the
Executive ex officio.

6.	The Executive shall convene at least two times per year.  The
quorum for Executive meetings shall be 3.

7.	All officers shall be elected for the period from the end of
one General Meeting to the next.  The President shall not normally
hold office for more than two years.

8.	In the event of a vacancy occurring, the Executive shall have
the power to coopt a member of the Association to fill that vacancy
until the next Annual General Meeting.

9.	There shall normally be an Annual Conference of the
Association.  The time and place of the Annual Conference shall be
determined by the previous Annual General Meeting following indicative
recommendations by the Executive.  The Executive shall be responsible
for the organisation of the Annual Conference.

10.	The Annual General Meeting of the Association shall be held
during the Annual Conference or, if there is no Annual Conference in 
any one year, at a time and place to be determined by the Executive
but not more than fifteen calendar months after the previous
Annual General Meeting.  The Executive may call other General
Meetings on the provision of notice of one calendar month to the
members of the Association.  The voting quorum for General Meetings
shall be no less than one-quarter of the total financial membership of
the Association in the absence of which motions may be deferred to 
a postal ballot.

10.1	The Executive shall call a General Meeting of the Association
if petitioned to do so by no less than one quarter of the total
financial membership of the Association.

11.	There shall be annual subscriptions of such sums as the
Association shall from time to time determine.  The subscriptions
shall be for a twelve month period and shall be due for payment on 30
June each year.

12.	The Hon. Treasurer shall maintain accounts showing the income
and expenditure of the Association and shall present an audited set of
accounts to the Annual General Meeting.

13.	The Association shall publish a newsletter, the frequency,
content and method of publication of which shall be determined by the
Executive.

14.	This Constitution may be altered, on a motion of which notice
in writing has been given to the Executive, at a duly convened General
Meeting of the Association by a two-thirds majority of financial
members present and voting, provided that notice in writing
is received by the Executive at least one week in advance of
the General Meeting, or by a simple majority of the total
financial membership via a postal ballot.
