Bibliography of the Symbolism of Charmstones
and Other Ritual Objects

This document is a part of a larger collection of the AnthroGlobe specialist bibliographies.
It forms a subsection of the
Asian Studies WWW VL and
Pacific Studies WWW VL.
Do you have any corrections or addenda to this bibliography? If so, contact
the Editor at the email address listed above. Your input will be gratefully received and acknowledged.
Peter Rhode writes: It includes listings which could be, in a
sense, only marginal to my original paper, because they almost
exclusively concern aspects of sexual symbolism in objects
associated with observances found in, for example, fertility,
increase, or puberty initiation rites. Some of these entries
may, at present, be but tenuously connected with charmstones
themselves. Such a bibliography thus stands as a minimal
attempt to relate considerations of one of the supposed
important functions of California charmstones to a wider field
of studies of symbolism.
