The footprint found in 1982 Professor Tran Hong Viet was not the subject of much interest for many years. It was known among Vietnamese scientists that Bernard Heuvelmans believed that a specimen known as the 'Minnesota Iceman' might have come from Vietnam.
Professor Vo Quy of Vietnam National University Hanoi was among the scientists who penetrated Central Highlands forests in 1974 and later became a leader for a post-war inventory of natural resources. It was during this inventory that Viet, then collecting animals in forests near Chu Mo Ray in Sa Thay District, found and cast this footprint which is about as long as the foot of local ethnic minority people, but much wider.

Interest in this material was rekindled by Professor Helmut Loofs-Wissowa who has since suggested that Professor Viet publish his research. Until that work is completed, we have only a rough screen image from a video production by Japanese television and published in July, 1996 by Fortean News of the World, the journal of the Japan Fortean Item Society (J-FIS).
J-FIS researches every kind of strange phenomenon in the world: ancient culture, cryptozoology, psychic phenomena, UFOs, and so on. Their representative, Mister Namiki Shin-ichiro is a writer and famous as a researcher of strange phenomena in Japan. Fortean News of the World is published in the Japanese language and at irregular intervals.
